One Page A Day: Notes On A Small Writing Habit
Our story

From a Brooklyn newsletter to a national magazine.

Jizan started in 2017 as a weekly email written at a kitchen table in Brooklyn: five stories, no clickbait, one honest take on each. Readers forwarded it to friends, friends became subscribers, and the newsletter grew into a newsroom.

Today our editors and correspondents work from New York, Washington, Chicago, Austin and Seattle. We still follow the rule of that first email: if a story is not worth your time, we do not publish it.

Editorial standards

What we stand for

Every story on Jizan is checked against the same four promises. They are printed on the wall of our New York office and in every writer’s contract.

01

Accuracy first

Facts are verified by a second editor before publishing. Corrections are dated and shown at the top of the story.

02

Independent voice

Advertisers never see a story before it runs. Sponsored content is always labeled as sponsored.

03

Reader trust

No dark patterns and no fake urgency. We tell you how we test products and when we earn a commission.

04

Every perspective

We hire and quote widely, across cities, ages and backgrounds, so the whole country sees itself in our pages.
